Van Insurance Cover
If your policy doesn't offer you the cover that you and your business need then it's not worth paying a penny for
The Basics
Comprehensive (or fully comp)
will cover you legally for damage to another persons property such as their car or even their garden wall. It also includes Fire, Theft, Vandalism and damage to your vehicle if it's your fault.
Third Party Fire and Theft (TPF&T)
still covers damage to other road users as well as (obviously) Fire and Theft claims to your van. It's quite likely to be very close in cost to Comprehensive cover and sometimes even more expensive.
Third Party Only (TPO)
only insures your legal requirements to others and is worth considering only if your van is worth very little
Extra Covers
Windscreen
Usually covered automatically under Comprehensive policies (check this!) and with an excess around £50 (check this too!) it's well worth having with the cost of a windscreen running easily into the hundreds.
Legal Expenses
You might see this as an added cost that you don't really need but it can prove indespensible if some muppet crashes into you especially if you're injured. The legal expenses policy will hire you a van to keep you on the road and work to recoup any losses not covered by your own policy including your excess you paid to get your van fixed, claims for your own injuries like whiplash. It may even be possible to claim for lost earnings.
Breakdown
You might get this at a better rate with your van insurance than directly from a Breakdown Specialist such as the RAC or AA. What more can be said that anything that keeps you on the road and working is better for your earnings.
